The Nation’s Largest Gathering of Hospital at Home Programs and Experts
The last year has been a period of exciting, even transformational growth for hospital at home programs across the country. Spurred by the CMS Acute Hospital Care at Home waiver, concerns about hospital patient safety during the COVID pandemic, and media coverage of the model’s potential, health systems and hospitals have taken notice. They are developing programs in urban, suburban, and rural settings and exploring how acute care for a wide range of patients and diagnoses can be delivered safely and effectively at home.
During this period, the Hospital at Home Users Group™, with ongoing support from The John A. Hartford Foundation, has grown dramatically. With more than 350 full and affiliate members, the Hospital at Home Users Group is the nation’s largest community of hospital at home programs throughout the United States, Canada, and beyond. We have expanded our technical assistance library, launched a webinar series, and have created a vibrant learning community for new and existing programs. At the same time, the federal Acute Care at Home waiver that has provided a straightforward payment mechanism for these programs faces an uncertain future.
The period of exceptional growth and programmatic ferment provided an opportune moment for the Fourth Annual Meeting of the Hospital at Home Users Group, which took place online on October 27, 2022, as a pre-conference to the American Academy of Home Care Medicine’s meeting. Just over 400 people registered for the meeting and enjoyed a dynamic day-long program including poster presentations, panel discussions with caregivers and C-Suite leaders, a policy update, a dialogue with Dr. Bob Wachter, a keynote from Dr. Nirav Shah, and an interactive hack-a-thon activity.
We are just starting to plan for next year’s meeting, so please check back for more information in the coming months!
